The first day of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland 2016 dawned damp and misty, so much so the helicopters were grounded until after the first two dozen or so crews had passed through. Espen Hegelund and Karsten Isaksen in a Skoda Fabia R5 withstood a determined challenge from other top division drivers to take victory by 16.7 seconds. With eight nonstarters, 69 cars left the starting ramp at midday for a total of six stages run in two loops of three. Total stage distance was 60 km.
